Abstract

These are photographs of the sides of boxcars. None of the images has been digitally altered or edited in any way. I discovered the boxcars on a set of dead end tracks while walking my dog on ONR property near where I used to live in North Bay, and was struck by the beautiful abstract quality of the chipping paint, rust, and decay. I initially took the photos to use as reference for colour and texture in my paintings, but an artist friend thought I should exhibit them as stand-alone photographs. To my delight, they were featured in CameraFrontera: A Festival of Contemporary Photography 2007. Later, I began to use selected images as backgrounds in my photo-based work.
